My son 3 months old has just been put on Neocate because of having Eczema and low wieght gain. Please can anyone tell me if this has been successful for their babies? How long till we see a difference? Is this the only formular for babies with Food Allergies. I see it is made in Liverpool England. Why is there no formular simular made in America?
I really hope that someone here will be able to help us. My breastfed 5 1/2 month old son had a bloody stool 6 days ago. We took him to the doctor, who diagnosed a milk allergy. My wife completely abstained from all milk and other dairy for the week, and he had no other bleeding. After five days he had another bloody stool. We took him to another doctor in the same practice who now says he has a milk (dairy), wheat, soy, and nut allergy. He is not colicy, had no bleeding or other symptoms before 5 1/2 months, is thriving (chubby, actually!) and there is no history of food allergy in the family. My questions are:Would the milk allergy have cleared up within 5 days? I'm wondering about the diagnosis of a broader allergy that quickly after elimination of dairy from my wife's diet. The doctor strongly tried to convince my wife to stop nursing and start using Neocate, but she is willing to eliminate all of those foods from her diet and take supplements to continue nursing. Is weaning really necessary?Should we see a specialist? I have the sense that the pediatricians are guessing about the diagnosis.Thank you so much for any advice.
I have a 3 year old daughter with severe allergys to milk and eggs, and slight allergy to wheat, her doctor said it wasnt enough to bother taking it from her diet. She eats wheat and doesnt break out in hives, but she does have eczema on her buttocks and back of legs. She is so senstive that she breaks out to residue from someone touching her after they ate something with egg or milk. She was dx at age 6 months. What are the chances of her growing out of this? Is there anything else I could give her to help immune system and GI tract. She started preschool this year and is getting sick alot and I know it is because of her decreased immune system. I have had people tell me to not give her any gluten. Is there any cures, herbs anything that will help this kids?
My son is 6 weeks and has been diagnosed with a milk protein allergy. He has had blood and mucus in his stool. He broke out in a rash on his face while on Nutramigen and tested for blood and mucas in the stool again so he has been on Neocate for 5 days. His rash has now spread to his chest, neck, ears and has increased amount of mucus in his stool. Is this normal on Neocate?
My 7 month old son has been on neocate since 5 weeks old. He presented with severe allergic collitis, severe GERD, eczema, and sleeplessness and irritability. Both of my sister's children have had similar issues, both are on a no dairy or egg diet. Her 4 year old tested positive for dairy and egg on skin testing. Her 18 month old has not been tested, but refuses most solids, suffers terrible GERD, and his GI doc. said no milk, so he is on Ellecare, after being on nutramigen for the first year.My son's collitis subsided at 20 weeks, and he is on Zegerid for the reflux. He still sleeps sitting up for the reflux, but all in all it seems to be better. 3 questions:1) We started solids 1 week ago, our GI doctor siad he could have anything, but our ped. said to start w/ fruits and vegetables, because she suspects he is MFPI. He ate them wonderfully (1st bananas, then carrots), but over a couple days became extremely irritable, many night wakings, raspy reflux breathing, and arching his back, (something he hasn't done in many months). I know it was from the solids, but am unsure what to try next. The ped. said try carrots again in 2 weeks, and our GI doc. is absolutely no help. Is it bad to wait until he is older, say 9 months to try again? What foods should we try, no one seems to know?2) Our GI doc. said that he must do a full milk dairy challenge at 1 years old. They said if he has no immediate reaction then they are taking him off the neocate. If he does have an immediate reaction, then they will send him to allergist, because it is no longer a gi issue. Considering my nephew's history, is it just me, or does this sound crazy? I am terrified to try dairy with him. He went through so much pain as an infant, and so many procedures, I can't imagine putting him through that again.3) He has been on 20 mg of zegerid a day since 20 weeks, could he possibly need a higher dose now that he is 20 pounds and twice as old?
Can a child who can eat sweet potatoes also eat pumpkin?
Our child is 1 year old and he has multiple food allergies. Our specialist has recommended the use of Neocate. It is clear to us that it only consists free amino acids, but we need to have the average molecular weight (Daltons) of the amino acids available. Thank you in advance for your help and prompt reply.Best Regards, Phedra.
My son is 4 years. he is allergic to dairy milk and soy. He has been on Nutramagen until now and we would like to try Neocate. He does not have impairment of the gastrointestinal tract but has severe ezcema, so what is the right Neocate product you recommend.
My son has MSPI. He also has had an allergic reaction to every solid food that we have given him (carrots, sweet peas, green beans, bananas, applesauce, sweet potatoes). His bloodwork came back positive or borderline for milk, soy, oats, wheat and many others. The only thing he can tolerate besides his Neocate formula is Beechnut rice. Are there other baby products he can eat that are milk, soy and gluten free? I am concerned that he needs to be starting solids to develop his eating ability with texture.
My 11 week old son has been extremely fussy since he was born. He is my third child - my two older girls were both diagnosed with reflux, but I had my suspicions about allergies with both of them. This time, seeing as my son did not respond to Losec, my paediatrician suggested I do a test with neocate. The first week was reasonably good - still refluxing, but not crying as much. I then put him back on the breast as I was desparate to breastfeed. He was instantly miserable, so I tried again with neocate. I tried him for 11 days, this time he was not as good, but improved with each day. As I had by this stage modified my own diet to no dairy, soy or wheat, I tried him again on the breast. The first three days, he was still good, but then went backwards, so I made the heartbreaking decision to give up breastfeeding and keep him on neocate. He has now been on neocate (thickened with karicare thickener) for just over three weeks, and has had his better days - still refluxing, but sleeping much better, but then has some terrible days where he can't sleep past 40 minutes and cannot drink his bottle - he is in such obvious pain, but I can't help him. My question is - can it take longer than the standard two weeks to improve? Also, could the thickener be upsetting him? It has maize in it. His vomiting seems to be getting worse and he makes the most terrible gulping sounds all day long.
