I breastfed my son until he was 4 wks old and then was found to have a MSPI. He was having blood in his stool, not sleeping hardly at all and always gassy. We switched him to Alimentum - still having blood in stools- then to Nutramigen, after 5-6 days, he started to not sleep well again, so we changed to Neocate. He has now been on it for about 2 1/2 weeks and seems to be doing better. No blood in his stools and he's sleeping more. But he still seems gassy and does spit-up frequently. Could he still be having an allergy to the Neocate or do I need to give the Neocate longer to work in his system? Or, is this just something that he is going to have to deal with until he outgrows his allergy??Thanks
Hi,My daughter has displayed some symptoms of a milk
protein allergy but we're not certain at this point as we're seeing a pediatric gastroenterologist in couple weeks who will hopefully shed some light on what is going on. My daughter's pediatrician advised me to get off dairy while I was breast-feeding and I did but even after 2 weeks my daughter's green, mucousy poops did not stop. We mentioned Neocate to her pediatrician and he recommended we put her on Neocate instead of breast milk. It's been 2 days since my daughter has been exclusively on Neocate and she has had 2 poops which have been very dark green with some yellow curdled stuff on top. This poop has really freaked me out and I want to know if this is normal. Does the poop ever change to yellow completely or will my daughter continue to have dark green poops with yellow curdled stuff? Thanks!
I have adopted a baby girl...she is 7 weeks old. The hospital sent her home on Similac Advance. For the first couple of weeks she did well on it but then developed watery, green, foul smelling
diarrhea. We then had to change her to Enfamil w/ lipil. Almost immediately her stools became more normal consistancy (color and seedy). About a week after that she developed extreme gassiness and fussiness and would draw up her legs and cry after feedings. We then had to change her to Enfamil GentleEase. These symptoms continued and they changed her to Similac Allimentum. She did a little better on this but then had the return of the green foul smelling diarrhea. The doctor seen her in the office and had me stop that immediately and put her on pedialyte for 24 hours to clean out her system and then we started Neocate. She has done well on it but now 48 hours after starting this she now has a faint rash to her back and arms (she did have the beginning of a rash with the Allimentum---and we are in a severe heat wave...temps in the 101 and high humidity ???heat induced????)...I guess my question is...have there been documented cases of allergies to Neocate? If I could have your input I would greatly appreciate it...I am very frustrated at this point. Thank you!
Is there such thing as having an
adverse reaction to Neocate? I know
constipation is common with Neocate but my son is severely constipated and no remedy is helping. Do some children just not tolerate Neocate well? He has been on it for 2 weeks and his stool is so hard and big he cannot get it out. He trickles blood, grunts, pushes, cries and cannot sleep due to not being able to pass his hard stools. He never acted like this before nor was he uncomfortable prior to Neocate. As I mentioned, I have tried every remedy and nothing alleviates his constipation. He was on Alimentum previously and was gassy but not uncomfortable. Do you think my son should not be on Neocate? Please help!
I have just started using neocate advanced for my 15 month old son who was earlier taking a regular neocate. i have noticed a drop in his apetite ever since he has started to take the advanced version. He is barely eating his requisite amount. I am concerned. Are the two connected?
My son has been on Neocate for 3 days. Hasn't had a bowel movement for the last two of them. When I changed him today noticed a small amount of blood near the anus. Should I take him off or continue. He has had mucousy stools before but never blood while being breastfed. I elimanted milk, wheat, soy, eggs, & nuts from my diet breastfeeding and baby was still having problems. He stillalso has large amounts of gas. Have to burp him aboout every two ounces or he becomes to miserable to continue eating. And
eczema on his face that clears when he goes longer between feedings at night. I'm so happy I found this formula and website. I thought we were the only ones in the world who have gone through this. I've had 4 children and have been through this everytime. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
My 7 week old son has been on necoate for 4 days now. He had not had a bowel movement unitil today finally. It was horrible. He grunted and screamed. I had to take off his diaper and lift his legs to help him. The consistency was extremely hard. He was completly breastfed before and experienced no
constipation. And he has had nothing else but Neocate. Will this happen again? Is it a sign that he is allergic to Neocate? If he has a soy allergy can he still tolerate this formula? Any answers would be greatly appreciated!
My son spits up after every feeding with Neocate. While previously breastfed he did not have frequent bouts of spitting up. He also burps very loudly and forcefully after feedings? Is this a sign of an intolerance? Or an unfortunate side effect of Neocate? Thanks!
If my child is allergic to soy can he tolerate Neocate?
My 11 week old son has been extremely fussy since he was born. He is my third child - my two older girls were both diagnosed with reflux, but I had my suspicions about allergies with both of them. This time, seeing as my son did not respond to Losec, my paediatrician suggested I do a test with neocate. The first week was reasonably good - still refluxing, but not crying as much. I then put him back on the breast as I was desparate to breastfeed. He was instantly miserable, so I tried again with neocate. I tried him for 11 days, this time he was not as good, but improved with each day. As I had by this stage modified my own diet to no dairy, soy or wheat, I tried him again on the breast. The first three days, he was still good, but then went backwards, so I made the heartbreaking decision to give up breastfeeding and keep him on neocate. He has now been on neocate (thickened with karicare thickener) for just over three weeks, and has had his better days - still refluxing, but sleeping much better, but then has some terrible days where he can't sleep past 40 minutes and cannot drink his bottle - he is in such obvious pain, but I can't help him. My question is - can it take longer than the standard two weeks to improve? Also, could the thickener be upsetting him? It has maize in it. His
vomiting seems to be getting worse and he makes the most terrible gulping sounds all day long.
